When Vice President Kamala Harris greeted Dick Barnett on Friday, he was concise in his response. “Finally.”At long last, six surviving members of the all-Black Tennessee Agricultural & Industrial State University in Nashville visited the White House, the culmination of a decades-long effort, led by Mr. Barnett, for recognition. The Tennessee A&I Tigers were the first team from a historically Black college or university to win any national championship, and the first college team to win three back-to-back championships, in 1957, 1958 and 1959. The former teammates — Mr. Barnett, George Finley, Ernest Jones, Henry Carlton, Robert Clark and Ron Hamilton — took part in a private ceremony in the Roosevelt Room of the White House with Ms. Harris, who paid tribute to the team during a round-table discussion.

CNN —The Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) is leveraging the attention on Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-nominated film “Oppenheimer” in an attempt to elevate the conversation about nuclear threat. In the run-up to Sunday night’s Academy Awards, the organization is launching a “Make Nukes History” campaign Wednesday in Los Angeles. “We want to raise our voices to remind people that while Oppenheimer is history, nuclear weapons are not,” the group writes in their letter. CNN —Armand Duplantis reached seventh heaven at the Diamond League Final on Sunday as he yet again broke the pole vault world record. Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay also broke the women’s 5,000-meter record with a time of 14 minutes, 0.21 seconds. Sweden’s Duplantis needed just one attempt at 6.23m – a centimeter higher than his own record set in France earlier this year. Duplantis clears 6.23m at Hayward Field -- the seventh time he has broken the world record. Tsegay’s effort means that the women’s 5000m record has now been lowered by nearly 11 seconds over the past three years.

The suspect in the weekend shooting in a Dallas hospital hit his girlfriend in her labor and delivery room before opening fire and killing two employees, police have revealed. Dallas police on Monday shared a timeline of the Saturday shooting at Methodist Dallas Medical Center that killed two staffers, identified as Jacqueline Pokuaa, 45, and Katie Flowers, 63. The suspect, Nestor Hernandez, 30, was charged with capital murder in the shooting. When hospital employee Jaqueline Pokuaa, 45, entered the room to provide “routine services” to the patient, Hernandez shot her once. Rangel then fired one shot from his department weapon and hit Hernandez in the leg.
